Stressed out workers need a holiday every 62 days

New research by the Post Office holiday insurance division has found that stressed out workers in the UK need a holiday every 62 days in order to stay healthy and happy in their work.

With more and more UK employees working in fast paced and pressurised environment, may are reaching burn out quicker than they would have imagined. The study by the holiday insurance provider found that in order to stay on top of their workload and stay happy in work, employees needed to take a break on average every two months.

Experts warn that failing to take a break from work when you feel burnt out can result in more mistakes being made in the workplace, and can also contribute to a poor health in workers as they feel as though they’re running on empty.

Despite this, the survey from the Post Office found that only 1 in 5 workers take a break from work once every 2 months, while 44% work continuously for 6 months before taking any sort of break from work. The first time workers take a holiday during the year is on average, April 19th the research revealed, 3 and a half months into the New Year.

So if you’re feeling frazzled after yet another hard week in work, take a break – you probably need one more than you realise.

Home insurance to protect your property as the cold weather bites

As the forecasts warn of increasingly cold weather and the risk of snow and ice, now is the time to check your home insurance is up to date as the winter weather can cause havoc for property owners.

During the cold weather which hit Britain in January 2010, insurance claims for burst water pipes increased by a massive 220% in just four weeks. Burst pipes as a result of plummeting temperatures were found to be the most common claim for home insurers during the winter months last year.

In some cases, the cost of repairing damage to a home following a burst water pipe can run into hundreds of thousands of pounds, with damage being caused to ceilings, furniture, appliances and also personal belongings.

If you’re not planning to be at home for a few days during the winter, it’s a good idea to ask a friend or family member to take a look around your property to check everything is in order. It’s also advisable to check all exposed pipes outside are insulated to try and minimise the risk of it becoming damaged and bursting during freezing temperatures.

Home insurance experts advise policyholders to check their insurance covers them for long spells away from home if they are planning an extended trip over the Christmas or winter period.

Home insurance warning to World Cup fans

The Post Office has issued a warning to all football fans who are planning to follow all the World Cup from their living rooms. Research carried out by the Post Office has found that a high percentage of these fans will splash out on new items for their home ahead of the month long tournament.

According to the research which was unveiled last week, 9 out 10 supporters are planning to watch the World Cup matches from the comfort of their sofas. 93% of these fans say they will increase their spending during this period by £200 as they plan to invest in new plasma TV’s, fridges, and even BBQ’s to make the occasion all the more enjoyable.

31% of those surveyed also said they intend to invite friends over to watch the World Cup action at their homes. Entertaining comes at a price of course, whether it’s supplying alcohol, and making sure you and your pals have a big enough TV on which to watch the big match.

The Post Office’s main concern is with the amount of money which armchair fans are planning to invest in new kit for their home ahead of the tournament. They are recommending that anyone who splashes out on new equipment for their home for the World Cup, should check that their annual insurance policy adequately covers their new purchases in case of damage or theft.
